Import iCal files

If you have existing events from a different calendar, import an iCal file to make them available in Planning Center Calendar! Importing events will not erase or replace any existing events in Calendar.

Only organization administrators can import an iCal file.

Download iCal files

Calendar only supports imports from .ics files, which is the standard method of transferring calendar information between devices. Convert any iCal feed URL into an .ics file with these steps:

  1. Find the URL for the iCal feed you want to import into your Calendar.

  2. Change the webcal prefix of the URL to https. For example:

    Original URL

    New URL

    webcal://calendar.planningcenteronline.com

    https://calendar.planningcenteronline.com/

  3. Paste the new URL into your browser.

  4. Follow the prompts in your browser to download the .ics file to your device.

Warning

Avoid converting .csv files into .ics because important event data (such as recurrence and timezone) won't import properly in this format.

Import iCal events

  1. Choose Events from the top navigation.

  2. Select the ⚙️ gear icon in the top right.

  3. Choose Import events from the dropdown.

  4. Select the Import events button.

  5. Select the iCal file from your computer, then select Next.

  6. Adjust the default settings for all of the events from this iCal import.

    • Event Owner: Select a default owner for all of the imported events.

    • Church Center Visibility: Choose whether these events will be Published or Unpublished in Church Center.

    • Tags: Add tag(s) that will be applied to all of the imported events.

After importing your events, any changes you make to those events in Planning Center Calendar will not sync back to your original source.

Delete an import

You can delete recent iCal imports within 48 hours of uploading them.

  1. Choose Events from the top navigation.

  2. Select the ⚙️ gear icon in the top right.

  3. Choose Import events from the dropdown.

  4. Under Recent imports, find the iCal file you want to delete.

  5. Select Delete import to the right of the file name.

  6. Review the warning in the popup window. Deleting an import deletes all of the events created from this import, and cannot be undone.

  7. Type “Delete import” in the text field to confirm.

  8. Select Delete import to complete the process.

You can view imports older than 48 hours under Past imports, but the Delete import button is disabled. You must contact Support to delete these past imports.
